Go on a Cruise
Last month was our 10 year anniversary and I have been begging to go on a cruise (just the 2 of us) for about that long. A few months back Mitch surprised me and told me we were actually going on one. I have been so excited! I started planning everything and got thinking that this might be the perfect time to try and get pregnant. People are always telling those of us that can’t get pregnant, “go on a cruise or relax and you will get pregnant.” LOL RIGHT? Rather than get my hopes up, I guessed it wasn’t going to work for me, but why not give it a shot?
I got thinking about things I haven’t tried, and came up with a plan…. I had heard that some people will take birth control for 2 weeks and stop and somehow they get pregnant. Then I started learning about IVF and your first two weeks on IVF is birth control. Weird right? They say it relaxes your reproductive organs. So I started birth control and timed it perfectly so that my fertile days were all the days of our cruise. Then I got my diet in check and I was eating really well.
With all my preparations done, we set sail!
The first day of the cruise we took a tour of the ship’s spa and we met the acupuncturists. I have heard of people using Acupuncture to help with their infertility treatments so I was excited to talk to him and get some more information. Next thing I know he had talked me into trying it out and I had a needle in my arm and believe it or not it didn’t hurt. My husband said I should try it. I was very hesitant but I did it! I kept thinking that I want to do everything I can to make this work. Just a little background on me, I have very small veins and needles and I don’t usually get along so I was mortified to try acupuncture. I kept telling myself this is different, and it totally is. They have three different sizes of needles, he sat down with me and we talked about my health and he was very upfront and just opened his book and researched with me what points would be the most beneficial for me. He used medium and small needles and put some in my feet, hands and my face. I did have a little anxiety while it was happening, but after I felt good and relaxed. It was defiantly an experience I won’t forget.
The first few days of the cruise were at sea. Mitch and I checked out the ship, played some trivia, ate really good food, and got to play dress up. I love formal night; Mitch not so much but he was a good sport for me.
On day three we docked at Puerto Vallarta, Mexico and we went on a fun excursion to San Sebastián and we ate some authentic Mexican food….that and driving through the towns was probably my favorite part.
The next day we had a crazy adventure. We did the extreme canopy tour. It was wild, I mean I was screaming, laughing and freaking out all within five minutes! There were zip lines, repelling off waterfalls, waterslides, spiders, and we also got to ride donkeys. I loved the donkeys! It was such a crazy adventure and I am proud to say I did it all.
The next day we went to Cabo San Lucas and just had a chill day, we took a catamaran to Lands’ End had lunch on the beach and did a little shopping.
The best part was I was with Mitch, just the two of us having fun! Even though I didn’t get pregnant this month, it is so nice to have him on my team. Sometimes as I have gone through this journey I have worried that he blames me for us not being able to get pregnant, and that he somehow loved me less because my body doesn’t do what we want it to do. I have also felt guilty that I can’t give him all the children he would like. Then in quiet moments he reassures me that it is ok and that he doesn’t blame me and that we are a partnership and in this together. I feel so lucky to have him on my team.
This Journey is hard and there are roller coasters of emotions and physical side affects you deal with daily. It was so nice to have time to just enjoy each other, and make some fun memories.
The cruise was a fun thing to do and I really enjoyed spending time with my husband. I know that going on a cruise is not the ticket to getting pregnant. It was fun hoping and just enjoying myself and relaxing with my cute hubby. I can tell you this… it is much more fun to try to get pregnant on a cruise ship than at home.
