Here we are at the start of the new year.
I like to look at the new year as a fresh start. Even though it can be hard to focus on what I didn’t accomplish, or the fact that we did not get pregnant or add another baby to our family- looking to the new year and the new possibilities is refreshing and exciting.
Something that I love doing in January is picking “One Little Word”. Maybe you have heard of the concept- maybe you haven’t. I first learned about it many years ago before I got pregnant with my first baby and while I was working as a preschool teacher at a private school.
It was January 2008 and our school’s director asked each of the teachers to pick “one word” to focus on for the new year. Since my husband and I were just at the beginning stages of our infertility journey- I immediately chose the word “faith”. We were putting all of our faith in the process and hoping for the best.
My boss then printed out our words and we hung them in our classrooms. I got to see “Faith” printed out in tiny black letters almost every day that year and I know it made a difference during all of the countless fertility tests, blood draws, doctor’s appointments and continued negative pregnancy tests.
Over the years I have tried to continue to pick one word at the start of the year.
Acceptance, Let it go, Happiness , and Journey are just a few of the words that I have felt compelled to choose over the years.
After giving it a lot of thought I have chosen the word “Trust” for my word for 2017.
It embodies not only where we are in our infertility journey- but with everything else going on in my life as well. I need to trust in God’s plan and not only say it- but actually mean it.
As the faces behind Triumphs and Trials we would love to encourage you to each choose one word- or two- to focus on this year. Maybe it has everything to do with your infertility journey- or may it has nothing to do with it because that’s where you’re at emotionally. Ponder on what is important to you or what you want to think on every day to help your own personal growth.
Let us know in the comments what your word is! We would love to hear from you!
